Phonics at St John's

Here is a useful link to the Little Wandle website, parents/carers areas. We use Little Wandle to support our phonics and early reading provision at school. Once children have completed the phonics programme in Year 1, they move on to the Little Wandle Spelling programme in Year 2. The programme buils on children's prior, extensive learning of sounds and looks at applying this to spelling and spelling patterns. 

At times we may identify children as still needing some support with their phonics and reading, if this is the case, thesechildren will follow the Rapid Catch-Up route from Little Wandle. This is an intensive block of learning that aims to close any gaps children have and quickly bring them bakc on track.
